P16_1984A (Marathon II) bathymetry: Actual WHP ID will be something different. (Data sent to WHPO 3/04,being formatted.) ASCII navigation and bathymetry data file was obtained from Roland deSzoeke and Vicki Halliwell at Oregon State University. The data were hand-digitized from the shipboard PDR records. The depths reported use a 1500 m/sec sound velocity. Carter corrected depths are included in the p16_1984a_bathy_gdc.dat file. Expocode: 31WTMARAII Chief Scientist: Roland deSzoeke Ship: R/V Thomas Washington Ports: Honolulu, Hawaii to Kodiak, Alaska Dates: May 4 - June 4, 1984 "P16_1984A_bathy.dep" is the original data, uncorrected depths, format from V. Halliwell "P16_1984A_bathy_edited.dep" is the edited data (see below), uncorrected depths, Halliwell format "P16_1984A_bathy_gdc.dat" is the edited data, with uncorrected and corrected depths, GDC format Files updated 7/31/02 LDT ------------------------------------- Ascii format for the original data "P16_1984A_bathy.dep" and "P16_1984A_bathy_edited.dep" (called "marathon.dep" on the original data tape) (one record per line) Number of points (xxxxx) Month (mm) Day (dd) Time (hhmm) Depth (ddddd) uncorrected meters Zhigh Zlow Roll Stn latitude (ddmm.mmmmm) degrees*100+minutes, "S" negative longitude (ddmm.mmmmm) degrees*100+minutes, "W" negative Format of the "GDC" format file, "P16_1984A_bathy_gdc.dat" (one record per line): lat (ddddd.mmm) "S" negative lon (ddddd.mmm) "W" negative dpt (dddddd.d) meters imo (ii) month ida (ii) day iyr (ii) year ihr (ii) hour imi (ii) minute ise (ii) second ydat (yyyyddd.hhh) (Julian date in ytk format) ----------------------- Comments on data (V. Halliwell, OSU) Bathymetry hand-digitized from PDR records, assuming a 1500 M/S sound velocity. MARATHON.DEP This is the Marathon bottom profile as far as we have completed it. The first record of the file is a format with which the following data can be read. The 2nd record is a header. The data records contain the following fields: 1) NP - point number. This is the number of the orginal digitized point recorded by Vicki. It is not neccessarily equal to the record number since some points have been deleted. 2) Date/time as: month, day-of-month, and hours-minutes. 3) Unadjusted sonic depth in meters from transponder. Roland does not trust the routine we have here for adjusting depth so he leaves that to you. ******************** 4) Upper limit of recording range in meters. 5) Lower limit of recording range in meters. 6) Roll number from which the reading was taken. 7) Station number. This is the number of the most recent station. 8) Estimated latitude. 9) Estimated longitude. ---- Data quality (differences between original data and P16_1984A_bathy_corrected.dep): Numerous blank records were removed Corrupted lat/lon records in the original data file were repaired in P16_1984A_bathy.dep. Data look good, no spikes edited out.
